Description

1.1. Gelderland is one of 12 provinces in The Netherlands. It has almost 2 million inhabitants. Gelderland is situated in the east of the Netherlands, at the border with Germany.
The main European rivers Rhine and Maas enter Gelderland and divide in Gelderland into the Dutch delta. They form the connection between Rotterdam, Europe�s main port and the hinterland, mainly the German Ruhrarea, the main German industrialised region. Gelderland has 3 Cities of about 150.000 inhabitants, Arnhem, Nijmegen and Apeldoorn. Half of the province consists of rural area, but the agriculture influence is diminishing.
In the cities there are big knowledge institutions and universities. Also big internationals have their headquarters in Gelderland or have large departments.
